Where can I file a complaint?

  • For a complete listing of city, county and state offices of consumer protection, including the Attorney General's office in each state, go to http://www.consumeraction.gov/state.shtml. Look for the state or city you live in - that's your best start in filing a complaint.

  • You might also want to check with the Better Business Bureau. Find your local BBB at www.bbb.org. This is also a good way to check out a business.

Where can I get information on identity theft?

  • If you think you have been the victim of identity theft, or would just like some information on how to prevent this crime from happening to you, click on http://www.consumer.gov/idtheft/.

  • The Privacy Rights Clearinghouse also has very valuable information at their website http://www.privacyrights.org/. You can learn about your rights and responsibilities when protecting your privacy.

Where can I get a copy of my credit report?

  • Federal Legislation now entitles you to one (1) free copy of your credit report from each of the three major credit reporting agencies. In order to obtain a copy of your credit report vist the website link referenced below or call toll-free 1-877-322-8228
  • What are some sources for general consumer information?

    • The best site for great consumer information on hundreds of topics can be found in the Consumer Action Handbook. Click on http://www.consumeraction.gov/ and check out how to order your free copy.

    • Sign up for a weekly free newsletter at http://www.consumerworld.org/. This site includes the latest consumer news as well as bargains and good buys for the smart consumer.

    • Consumer Reports has been providing consumers unbiased product information for more than seventy years. Much of their information is available free at their website http://www.consumerreports.org/main/home.jsp.

    • For one-stop shopping for all consumer topics, bookmark this page: http://www.consumer.gov/.

    • Need a brochure or pamphlet? Go to http://www.pueblo.gsa.gov/ for hundreds of choices on consumer topics for everyone.

    • The National Highway and Traffic Safety Administration has information on defects in automobiles, crash test ratings, safety recalls, air bags and child safety seats. Click on www.nhtsa.gov.
